Symptoms Associated with Self-Rated Health in Frail Older Adults Using Day-Care or Home-Visit for Rehabilitation

Abstract

The aim of this study is to explore the association between several symptoms and self-rated health (SRH) among frail older adults who use day-care or home-visit for rehabilitation. 78 participants were asking about socio-demographic status, SRH, diseases, Basic Activities of Daily Living (BADL) and symptoms using a questionnaire. Multiple logistic regression analysis revealed that having urinary incontinence, having difficulty in moving arms and/or legs, and greater number of symptoms were independently associated with poor SRH. On the other hand, there was no association SRH with age, sex, number of diseases, and BADL. These results suggest that health-care providers, such as care and/or rehabilitation of the frail older adults, should focus not only on observable health including diseases and/or physical activities but also their symptoms, in order to facilitate SRH.
