The objective of the present study is to clarify the personal and environmental factors related to the daily difficulties of the frail elderly in communities conceming“ordinal housework”and“money management”. The research design is a cross-sectional survey with interviews of the frail elderly who use day care services covered under the public long-term care insurance program in Japan. 177 elderly panicipants were interviewed by using structured questionnaires. The author clarified the personal and environmental factors associated with the daily diificulties such as “ordinal housework” and “money management” by using hierarchical regression analyses. The results showed as follows. (1) Daily difficulties concerning “ordinal housework” were associated with depression scale and perceived state of health as personal factors, and presence of inmates and barriers on the floor of the house as environmental factors.(2)Daily difficulties concerning “money management” were associated with perceived state of health and dementia rating as personal factors. In conclusion, these factors should be assessed by care managers to make good relationships to allow better support of the frail elderly.
