In this paper we analyze how networks are important and critical for the structural change of industrial structures. For the purpose we clarify the concept of network. We recognize the hard network industry as a platform oriented industry.
As an example we analyze the computer software industry in U.S.A. and its continuing structural change. In the industry computer network (the Internet) for mutual communication which is constructed by engineers is expanding rapidly. The network is also a network for knowledge sharing and collaboration. In the network new communities for knowledge sharing and collaboration are growing outside of boundaries of companies. We call this neo-guild. The network gives network merit of improvement and evolution for the industry.
Next we pay attentions to Japanese industrial accumulation of subcontract companies and its network merit compared with the case of software industry of U.S.A..
