Abstract
The shallow draft theory is very useful for the numerical calculation of sea shock forces acting on a very large floating structure. But we have not discussed limitation for shallow draft theory under various site condition. The objectives of the present paper are to discuss adaptability of shallow draft theory for the calculation of sea shock forces acting on a very large floating structure. Therefore, we are introducing the boundary integral equation for the finite draft theory, and comparing both theory with each other. Next, we are introducing approximate solution for the finite draft theory which saves the computational time very much.
The conclusions obtained by the present paper are that the calculation method of the boundary integral equation with the shallow draft theory for the sea shock forces on a floating structure is applicable to all cases, and that the approximate solution is effective in shallow water. In addition, characteristics of sea shock forces acting on a very large floating structure in shallow water are dependent of the hull width and the distance between hull surface and sea bottom.
