Abstract
Nationwide efforts to support caregivers have been expanding, yet their actual utilization remains unclear. This study aimed to clarify the current state and challenges of caregiver support in relation to well-being. Family caregivers responded to a web survey that included multiple-choice questions on caregiving challenges, sources and types of support, free descriptions of supports, and well-being scales. Analysis of 325 responses revealed that caregivers often sought help from close people, like family, friends, or support staff for the care recipient. Regression analysis and t-tests showed that those who sought help from close individuals had better mental health, while those relying on medical, peer or municipal support reported higher psychological distress. Reasons for not utilizing support included lack of need, discomfort with asking help, uncertainty about appropriate resources, and unclear expectations. Based on these findings, future potential for caregiver support was discussed.
