Abstract

The story of brother, Abel and Kain in the Old Testament is widely known, whereas Abel and Kain in Szondi Test is not.

In Szondi Test, Abel is indicated by P=+-, and Kain by P=-+, In this study, the appearance of the sign of Abel and Kain was investigated, administering Szondi Test to 30 prisoners. 6 prisoners out of 30 (20%) showed Abel sign, who were all first offender, were easily treated and were well prognosed. On the other hand, Kain sign were shown by two prisoners (6.7%), who caused much difficulty in treatment, and one of them was regarded desperate in rehabilitation.

Considering the finding that Abel sign appears in 24.0% and Kain sign 2.2% of normal Japanese (20~60 yrs.) (OTUKA 1974), prisoner seems to show less Abel sign and more Kain sign.

Naming those who show Abel (Kain) sign both in V.G.P. (Das Vordergrund Profil) and E.K.P. (das Ex perimentelle Komplement Profil) as “genuine Abel (Kain) ” , I pursued the meaning of sign of Abel and Kain by examining each one case of them.
