Abstract
Aim:To investigate the incidence and risk factors of deep vein thrombosis (DVT) by using lower extremity venous ultrasound in the patients who were undergone colorectal surgery. Methods:We analyzed 385 patients who were performed lower extremity venous ultrasound after colorectal surgery from October 2008 to March 2011. Results:The DVT was detected in 58 (15.1%), and the occurrence in men was 21 (10.8%) and that of women was 37 (20.8%). The incidence of DVT was significantly more frequent in women than men (p=0.036). The mean age was 71.9 and 65.5 in the patients with present and absent of DVT, respectively. The patients with DVT were significantly older than the patients without DVT (p<0.0001). In eighteen patients accompanied with the ileus, 8 (44.4%) had DVT. The other 367 patients included 50 (13.6%) patients with DVT. The ileus was significantly correlated with DVT.
Conclusions:The results indicate the possibility that female, ileus, and high age may be useful for prediction of DVT.
