Abstract
Based on past reports, no consensus has been reached regarding the usefulness of neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NAC) for cervical cancer. In terms of the limitations of concurrent chemoradiotherapy that have been identified and preservation of fertility, NAC has recently attracted attention again. In a Cochrane review conducted in 2010, 6 randomized controlled trials (1,036 patients) were analyzed, and disease-free survival was reportedly improved in patients receiving NAC plus surgery as compared to those receiving primary surgical treatment. Although NAC plus surgery may improve the prognosis of patients, no conclusion has yet been reached on whether its usefulness is superior to that of primary surgical treatment. Thus, NAC should be performed within the framework of clinical studies. We look forward to such future studies.
