Abstract
We report a case of an 80-year-old man who underwent resection of metastatic left adrenal gland tumor from carcinoma of thoracic esophagus. He was consulted our hospital with a chief complaint of dysphagia. Esophagoscopic findings show a type 3 tumor on esophago-gastric-junction. Because the results of the biopsy showed Atypical cells, poorly-differentiated squamous cell carcinoma and invasion of the poorly-differentiated gastric cancer was thought about. Abdominal computed tomography (CT) showed lymph node metastases around an aorta, we performed left thoracotomy laparotomy inferior part esophagectomy, reconstruction of gastric tube (D2) and dissection of LN#16a2. The pathologic results were undifferentiated carcinoma, non-small cell type, pN4 (+), StageⅣ. He received chemotherapy with cisplatin (CDDP) and VP16. For 6 months after surgery, abdominal CT showed a low absorption mass of 1.9×2.2cm of the left adrenal gland.
Metastasis was suspected and we performed left adrenalectomy. The pathologic results had a diagnosis of metastasis to left adrenal gland in undifferentiated carcinoma. He has so far survived for 47 months.
