Abstract
A 77-year-old man admitted to our hospital suffering from right lower abdominal pain. Acute appendicitis was diagnosed from the results of blood test and computed tomography. An appendectomy was performed.
The surgical diagnosis was gangrenous appendicitis. Tumor was not founded. The results of the pathological examination was goblet cell carcinoid of appendix. 24 days later,ileo-cecal resection with D3 dissection was done.
Goblet cell carcinoid remnant rest around orifice of vermiform appendix. Lymph node metastases were not found. 17 months later, recurrence has not been observed. We experienced a case of goblet cell carcinoid, from which we realized the importance of investigating the specimen microscopically when treating for appendicitis.
