Abstract
We report a case of minute arteriovenous malformation (AVM) of the small intestine in which bleeding sites were diagnosed for the first time by intraoperative enteroscopy. A patient was 82-year-old man. He was referred to our hospital for sudden hematemesis and intestinal bleeding. The diagnostic procedures, including upper and lower gastrointestinal endoscopy, video capsule endoscopy, double balloon endoscopy and scintigram, were performed but failed to identify the bleeding site. For continuous intestinal bleeding, he underwent laparotomy. Intraoperative endoscopy revealed a bleeding site without mucosal lesion at the jejunum. A segment of the jejunum containing this lesion was resected. Histopathologically, it was diagnosed as having AVM. Intraoperative endoscopy was useful to find the bleeding site and reveal pathological findings.
