Abstract
Purpose: We examined clinical features of the small bowel obstruction without abdominal surgery history.
Methods: We retrospectively investigated clinical findings (causes, labo data and CT findings) in 26 patients of the small bowel obstruction without past laparotomy from January 2006 to December 2012, except for hernia which could be diagno sed from body surface.
Results: Among causes of bowel obstruction, obturator hernia accounted for 6 cases, internal hernia 5 cases and volvulus of the small intestine 4 cases. We performed release of small bowel obstruction with ischemic bowel resection in 12 cases, and without bowel resection in 12 cases. In resection group, CRP increased more significantly and ascites accumulated more frequently than in non-resection group.
Conclusion: The small bowel obstruction without past laparotomy had various causes and difficulty of definite diagnosis, so should be treated quickly under refined physical and examination findings.
