Abstract
Median cervical cyst is a congenital disease that arises from a remnant of the thyroglossal duct from the embryonic stages, and is rare in individuals ≥60 years old (prevalence, 0.6%). As a mass that develops in the midline neck area, distinguishing this entity from a malignant tumor is crucial in older patients. Moreover, careful diagnosis is necessary due to the possibility of recurrence. We encountered a case of median cervical cyst that developed in a 63-year-old man who visited the outpatient clinic with one month history of a lump in the neck area. He subsequently underwent surgery on suspicion of median cervical cyst. The midline portion of the hyoid bone was resected using the Sistrunk procedure and the patient was discharged on postoperative day 4. As of 3 months postoperatively, no recurrence has been observed.
