Abstract

A man in his 40s, who had undergone surgery for right inguinal hernia by Mesh Plug method 12 years ago, visited our hospital complaining of right inguinal pain for a month. CT and MRI revealed late-onset hernia mesh infection and abdominal wall abscess due to appendicitis. We performed an operation laparoscopically. The tip of appendix firmly adhered to hernia mesh, forming abscess around them. Appendix and hernia mesh were resected, and drainage tube was inserted in the pelvic floor via abscess cavity. He left hospital on the 18th postoperative day. There is no relapse of infection and inguinal hernia for 3 months after surgery. Laparoscopic surgery for late-onset hernia mesh infection due to appendicitis is considered to be a safe and useful procedure.
