We investigated records of daily meals and servings(SV) of university students to examine the extent of their understanding of food intakes as SVby using "Japanese Food Guide-Spinning Top". We defined SVcalculated by the subject as "Self-calculated SV" and that by the computer using" Japanese Food Guide-Spinning Top" as" Objectively calculated SV". The ratio of the former to the latter was about 80% respectively in respect of the grain dishes, vegetable dishes, milk, and fruits, and 49% in respect of the fish and meat dishes (main dish), showing a tendency for underestimation. As the main dish includes plural ingredients and tends to be classified into several categories, it is difficult to classify them into appropriate categories and to estimate the amount since one SVis based on protein. Thus, it is advisable to pay particular attention to this category when using "Japanese Food Guide-Spinning Top". As there was high correlation between SVof the grain dishes (r=0.69) and fish and meat dishes (r=0.44) and the energy intake, we assumed that determining SVof the grain dishes and the fish and meat dishes enables estimation of the energy intake.
