Management Competencies Influencing IT Project Performance

Abstract
As to competencies of carrying out, 42 management processes defined in “The guide to Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK)” were replied as a self-assessment for about 200 Project Manager(PM)s in information and communication technology field. Obtained results of questionnaires were analyzed by factor analysis and 9 factors were identified such as “risk management”, “progress management”. Difference in extracted factor's score between PMs having successful out come in latest project and PMs having unsuccessful out come in latest project were compared. Then these factor's relationships were analyzed by pass analysis. As a result, the influence of “deliverable management” factor for time performance and the influence of the “requirement management” factor for cost performance were verified. Additionally, the “progress management” factor influenced for these 2 factors. These results indicated importance of 3 competency factors (deliverables management, requirement management, progress management) for IT project success.
