Abstract

This study aims to study lower body type classification using fuzzy clustering technique. Knowledge about human body is important in product design. Previously, most studies used the crisp classification methods, but this method had limitations in explaining human body types. For this research, firstly we collected lower body analysis and preprocessed data for Korean women. After using factor analysis, we performed fuzzy clustering with four centers. As the result, four factors were derived from the factor analysis. Four types of lower body features were defined based on the four factors. It was found that, by age, the composition of the body type differed. According to the result of this study, young people and the elderly belong to a specific lower body type for each. This can help designers understand the lower body in Korean women population. Results can be applied to product design.
