Abstract

The purpose of this study was to examine the effectiveness of new safety colors designated by the Japanese Industrial Standard (JIS) with enhanced color vision accessibility. The ratings of perceived hazard and discriminability for the color schemes of safety and contrast colors were compared between the new and old revised standards among congenital red-green deficiency and normal color vision group. The results suggested that the new color scheme of red-white is less effective as a safety color than the old one both aspects of perceived hazard and discriminability.
