Abstract
This study is an attempt to develop how to rationally guide learners on hand-sewing known as Unshin, a Japanese cultural skill, in the liberal and professional education by analyzing it experimentally and by making suggestions about its mechanism.
It was found out that there are many moving forms and processes in mastering Unshin. By using a computer system, the forms in making a right seam and a wrong seam while doing Unshin with eyes opened and closed on 3 skillful (S) and 3 unskillful (US) subjects were analyzed.
The resulting stick pictures (SP) in the computer show that the motion of the forearms; the locus of the movement of the right and left tips of the forefingers; the horizontal, vertical and the velocity of arm movements are some of the distinctive features that could be observed and clearly studied. The following results were observed from the SP: a) the locus of the movement of the right and left tips of forefingers of S are smoother than US; b) the SP of S show that the motion of the forearms when the subject's eyes were closed are as smooth as when their eyes were opened but the SP of US show that when the subject's eyes were closed, the motion of the forearms were irregular and crude than when their eyes were opened; and c) the vertical distance of the right finger tips of S is larger than that of US's which is explained by the controlled movement of the articulatio radiocarpea of the S.
