Abstract
Corresponding to the needs of various industries where designing products with high usability is of great concern, the competence required for usability specialists were investigated by employing following inquiring methods. First version of the list of usability competence was created by conducting semi-structured interviews twice with managers of usability-related industries. Then, this list was confirmed and analyzed by questionnaire method. This resulted in the second version of the list of usability competence comprised of 54 items that were classified into five types with three importance levels. The result of this study also shows that there are differences in required competence between managers and engineers, and the same list of competence can be applied to a wide variety of industry types and job types.
