Abstract
Man machine system in Air Traffic Control Service has essen ttially information processing function. particularly, visibility of air-port tower-cab is vital to air-traffic controller's performance.
Visibility is defined in a concept of “space characteristics” of visual information; is measured majorly by solid-angle, and consequently several key requirements to visibility design can be made clear.
Measurement of tower-cab visibility is made possible by a newly developed equi-solid-projection fish-eye lens with 230° angular field or by application of conventional type of fish-eye lens with 180° angular field with and of special attachment lens. By these instruments, solid-angle can be easily measured through measurement of photo-image area.
Tower-cab visibility variables and evaluation index, and their quantitative relationships are also discussed. (continued)
