Abstract
The patient was a 25 year-old woman. She presented with a weekly to monthly incidence of simple partial seizures associated with visual field reduction and eye deviation to the right, as well as complex partial seizures with head deviation to the right. EEG showed no paroxysmal discharge. MRI showed an organic lesion in the left occipital lobe. Ictal SPECT using 99mTc-ECD showed regional hyperperfusion in left occipital lobe. FDG-PET showed left occipital hypometabolism. From these results, seizures were considered to originate in left occipital lobe. In the case of FDG-PET the burden on the patient is smaller compared to ictal SPECT, and its implementation is easy. FDG-PET is therefore useful in the diagnosis of occipital lobe epilepsy.
