Abstract

In the primary report of this study, it was already pointed out that the phytopathogenic element of the “Witches' Broom” of the Paulownia could be a Virus-Protein owing to the success in the artificial infection of this disease by grafting method and to quite a similarity of the artificially infected plant to the naturally infected one in the Biuret-Trommer Reaction.
This paper deals with the further researches pn the reactions that the proteins in the disused plant show for the several sorts of chemicals. The results observed in the precipitation reactions of the proteins are as follows.
When the proteins included in every part of the plant were treated by KOH and CuSO4 solution; the color-reaction, so-called the Biuret-Trommer Reaction, showed quite a contrastic difference between the healthy and diseased plant, that is, in the healthy plants the colourings lie towards red and in the diseased ones towards purple, with the exception of the root. The results obtained are shown in the following table.
In the observation on the influence of Kclo3-solution upon the leaves of the diseased plants, the diseased leaves showed the remarkably injurious symptoms along their veins even in the 0.5% solution after 6 hours, whereas the healthy ones were slightly injured in the 1% solution after 12 hours.
