Abstract
The intensity of high temperature treatment for killing cryptomeria pollen was studied, in order to discover the least severe treatment of discontamination while avoiding injury to pollinating equipment. The results showed that 50°C for 6 hours or 60°C for one hour was enough.
The optimum conditions of agar germinating media were investigated for hinoki cypress pollen. The following seemed best: 1.0 to 2.0 per cent agar and 10 to 15 per cent sucrose, being adjusted at pH 5.5 to 7.0.
The optimum air humidity for storing hinoki cypress pollen seemed 30 to 40 per cent when stored at the average temperature of 2.3°C. Better methods of storage must be sought since even the best storage condition examined showed a decrease in germination percentage from 86.7 to 10.2 in one year.
