Abstract
In the various woody environ-ments which are sympatric areas of Apodemus speciosus and A. argenteus, the difference, of habitat preference between the two species was studied. A. speciosus had a strong preference for rich ground vegetation, and in fact many individuals were captured here. On the other hand, A. argenteus showed little tendency to prefer ground vegetation. A similar phenomenon was observed in field experi-ments with an enclosure which was divided into four parts consisting of different
vegetation types. A. speciosus utilized only parts which had ground vegetation,
whereas A. argenteus occurred in all parts so long as some vegetations grew.
