Abstract
This paper reviews current knowledge of rainfall interception in the tropical forests. Reports from 106 observational cases in 73 sites from 30 countries and regions were collected. We examined dependency of rainfall interception rate and its amount on climate, vegetation and altitude. The relation between evapotranspiration and interception was also examined. Almost all observed rainfall interception rates were in the range between 10 and 20% regardless of the climate, vegetation or altitude, but there were several exceptional cases in which a great attention was 'Said to keeping accurate records but 35-45% or less than 10% rainfall interception rates were reported.
