Abstract

We report a case of effective percutaneous transvesical aspiration for a postoperative abscess of rectovesical pouch. An 84-year old man was admitted to our hospital for abdominal pain and vomiting. He was diagnosed with ileus caused by a tumor of the small intestine, and partial resection of the small intestine was performed. On postoperative day 14, he complained of lower abdominal discomfort, and the laboratory data became worse. Enhanced computed tomography indicated an abdominal abscess, 5.5cm in diameter, occupying the rectovesical pouch. Percutaneous transvesical abscess aspiration was performed, and his clinical conditions began to improve the next day. He was discharged from the hospital 14 days after treatment. Postoperative abscess of rectovesical pouch is comparatively rare. We report this interesting case with some discussion based on the literature.
