Abstract
After laryngopharyngoesophagectomy, a free jajunum autograft is the first choice for reconstruction of the upper digestive tract. Recently, surgical voice restoration has been performed with a free jajunum graft immediately after laryngopharyngoesophagectomy. In our hospital, free jajunum grafts for voice restoration were performed in four patients.
After dividing the jejunum into two segments, neopharyngoesophagus was reconstructed using one jejunal segment. The other segment was used for voice restoration. The aperture of five millimeters was made at the neopharyngoesophagus. A siphon-like jejunum was interposed between the trachea and the aperture of neopharyngoesophagus. To prevent misswallowing, the lumen of siphon-like jejunum was narrowed by suturing the serous membrane. Moreover, the top of the loop-shaped jejunum was positioned as high as possible and fixed to the digastric muscle.
All patients had no misswallowing, and three of them obtained good phonation.
