Study of Detection of Machining Workpiece for Online Measurement Machine

Abstract

We have developed an online measurement system for machining tools. The measurement system measures the profile of a workpiece on the machining stage using a camera. This paper presents edge detection methods for the profile measurement. We evaluate some methods to measure a diameter of a circle shape and propose a sub-pixel method which is robust for ambient light fluctuations and reduces measurement variations dependent on operators
