Abstract
Recently, there has been a call for research on mindfulness in parenting. The goal of present study was to develop the Five Facet Mindful Parenting Questionnaire (FFMPQ), a multidimensional measure of mindful parenting based on a well-established measure of general mindfulness, the Five Facet Mindfulness Questionnaire (FFMQ: Baer et al., 2006). A total of 122 parents who have children aged 6 to 13 years completed the pilot version of the FFMPQ as well as Japanese version of the FFMQ and the Parenting Scale (PS) as validation measures. Factor analysis of the FFMPQ yielded a five-factor solution. The factors of the FFMPQ were named Describing, Observing, Non-overreacting to inner experience, Non-overreacting to children and Staying away from inner experiences. All five subscales had good internal consistency. Construct validity was demonstrated via correlations with the validation measures. As a result, it was seen that relationships among the FFMPQ, FFMQ, and PS were mostly as expected, therefore it was concluded that the FFMPQ has good construct validity.
