Abstract
Objective of this study is to introduce the successful review and improvement of maintenance management of incubators in our institution. In accordance with the present Medical Care Low in Japan took effect on April 1st 2007, the method and cost-effectiveness in maintenance management of incubators in our institution was comprehensively reviewed since May 2009. In our institution, there were 33 incubators of 7 models manufactured by 2 makers. After making our original manuals of maintenance of incubators based on manufacturers′ introduction, medical engineers were trained by that. Thereafter, cost effectiveness between commercial and self-maintenance management was evaluated. Subsequently, it was revealed that maintenance management of incubators by employed medical engineers was 33% cost saving in comparison with that of commercial one. Additionally, 99.7% cost saving was obtained by using “hook slider” which was seal material to prevent degradation in expendable parts of incubators. Thus, in maintenance management of incubators in accordance with the present low of medicine, self-management of these followed by making institutional manuals and education of staffs might be further cost-effective than conventional method by manufacturers companies.
