Abstract
The antifungal activity of Siccanin to dermatophytes was studied in this paper. Examination by serial dilution method showed that Siccanin had fungistatic and fungicidal activity against Trichophyton rubrum, interdigitale and asteroides at 0.39μg/ml but not against Hormodendrum pedrosoi, Sporotrichum schenkii and Candida albicans. In order to evaluate the fungicidal activity in vivo Siccanin was administered topically for 8 days to guinea pigs, after Trichophyton asteroides was inoculated. Trichophyton asteroides was not found in the medium which cultured the specimens from Siccanin treated area. The clinical evaluation of Siccanin was carried out. Forty two patients with tinea cruris and 46 patients with tinea pedis were treated with 1% Siccanin ethanol solution and 1% Siccanin polyethyleneglycol ointment. In 74 patients the lesions were much improved within 2 weeks. Six patients showed local irritation.
