Abstract

Frey isolated a new species of keratinophilic fungus from the soil in Australia and New Guinea by Vanbreuseghem's hair-baiting technique. He named it Aleurisma keratinophilium.
Carmichael studied the taxonomic position of the genus Chrysosporium Corda 1833 to publish the clear generic description of it. According to him, the keratinophilic fungus isolated by Frey belongs to the genus Chrysosporium.
The presence of this fungus, Chrysosporium keratinophilum (Frey) Carmichael, 1962, in the soil has been demonstrated in many countries.
This paper deals with the isolation of this fungus from soil, air, and rats in Japan.
