Abstract

In spite of the relative scarcity of reports on non-dermatophytic onychomycosis (NDO) in Japan, its increasing incidence is becoming more of a problem in the field of dermatology, especially because of the difficulties in diagnosis and the limited therapeutic methods.
Several cases of NDO are described and discussed with their clinical features, characteristics in potassium hydroxide (KOH) mount findings, macro- and micromorphology of the causative fungi and the results of treatment by newly introduced systemic antifungal drugs which are found to be also effective for treatment of NDO.
