Abstract
An 85-year-old female patient with irregularly-shaped granulomatous lesions of sporotrichosis is described. The lesions extended from the root of her nose downward to the cheeks. She had no remarkable past history such as trauma or topical corticosteroid therapy. The atypicality of her clinical feature is thought to be caused by autoinoculation. Using Fungiflora Y fluorescent staining, fungal elements which were not found easily using PAS or Grocott staining were quickly and clearly distinguished in the tissue. Although this staining has no specificity for identifying fungi, it is useful because of its speed, sensitivity, reliability and ease of use.
