Abstract
Aphelenchoidea, which contains plant parasites, fungal feeders, insect parasites and predators, is biologically divergent superfamily. The superfamily is separated into two families, Aphelenchidae and Aphelenchoididae, however these two families are phylogenetically apart from each other, and thus the superfamily is not a “good natural taxon”. Nevertheless, considering their morphological similarity, e.g., very well-developed median bulb, and biological similarity, it is reasonable to retain this superfamily as tentative taxonomic group. In the present review, the morphological characters and the taxonomic status of the superfamily are summarized, and the taxonomic table and pictorial key to the genera are provided.
