Abstract
Some parents of procellariiformes adjust provisioning to their chick's food requirements, while others do not. To estimate food provisioning and its regulation in Streaked Shearwaters Calonectris leucomelas on Mikura Island, we measured chick body mass every three hours during 24 hours. Daily food intake (SUM) was estimated using mass increase over a night (NET) and body mass (BM), as SUM=1.102 (±0.118SE) NET +0.113 (±0.031SE) BM −0.498 (±17.980SE) (R2=0.735). Neither age nor short-term body condition of chicks affected their daily food intake or the number of meals provided per night.
