The yeast-like fungus Meira nashicola was isolated from the phylloplanes of the bog bean Menyanthes trifoliata. Two strains of M. nashicola assimilated various sugars and had protease activity. Although we detected differences in 4 substitutions and 17 indels between M. nashicola isolates and M. nashicola MAFF 230028, sequences of the large subunit rDNA D1/D2 region were identical. Although physiological tests showed differing abilities to utilize carbon sources such as galactitol and L-arabinitol, most physiological characteristics of M. nashicola were similar to those of MAFF 230028.
