Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy (REBT) is well known as the primary psychotherapy in cognitive-behavioral therapy, but its therapeutic effects are not well known. Therefore, this paper presents an overview of representative intervention studies on major depressive disorder, a meta-analysis of these intervention studies, and a meta-analysis of the relationship between beliefs and depression. A manual for MDD has been prepared for REBT, and studies using first-line antidepressants and Beck’s cognitive therapy as comparison groups have confirmed that REBT is as effective or more effective than first-line therapy. This paper outlines the effectiveness of REBT, focusing on intervention studies in adults and teenagers and the latest meta-analyses.
