Abstract
Here we report a clinical study on 135 patients who were clinically diagnosed as oral lichen planus (OLP). The patients were 30 males and 105 females; the male/female ratio was 1:3.5. The mean age was 60.7, and the peak of age distribution was the seventh decade both in males and females. The most frequently affected site was buccal mucosa (30.5%), followed by gingivobuccal fold (24.1%) and gingiva (23.5%). The reticular-erosive mixed lesions were most frequently observed (22.9%), followed by erosive (21.3%) and reticular (19.4%) type lesions. One hundred and eleven cases (82.1%) were histopathologically diagnosed as OLP or OLP-compatible, and topical steroid therapy was administered to 105 patients out of them. There found significantly more patients with multiple lesions and reticular-erosive lesions in the therapy-resistant and poorly-controlled group than the therapy-responding and well-controlled group.
