Abstract
Local control of head and neck cancer is particularly important to preserve cosmetic and functional aspects and to maintain quality of life, however there is no established treatment for unresectable recurrent cancer after standard treatment. In this report, we describe a case of head and neck Alluminox therapy, a promising new treatment modality. The patient was an 85-year-old woman. She was diagnosed with right maxillary gingival cancer and underwent multiple resections and chemoradiotherapy, however the cancer recurred in the right buccal mucosa. After the treatment, tumor shrinkage and pain reduction were observed, and the patient was transferred to home care. No serious side effects were observed. Head and neck Alluminox therapy is expected to be an effective treatment for unresectable locally advanced or recurrent head and neck cancer. In this case, pain management and tumor shrinkage improved the patient’s quality of life, suggesting the appropriateness of head and neck Alluminox therapy in the terminal stage.
