Abstract
The differential diagnosis of temporomandibular joint disorders (TMD) includes serious, life-threatening diseases. We must be careful to make an accurate differential diagnosis of TMD. Symptoms that are particularly useful in distinguishing from TMD include pain at rest/persistent pain, difficulty in opening the mouth due to interincisal dimeter less than 25 mm, swelling, fever, neurological symptoms, symptoms in other areas, symptoms that do not improve over a long period of time, mandibular deviation/abnormal occlusion. We will explain the differential diagnosis of these.
