The pleomorphic adenoma developing in the palate of a 44-year-old man was examined by scanning and transmission electron microscope.
The results obtained were as follows: By scanning electron microscopy; the tumor consisted of columnar or cuboidal cells of one to two layers which formed lumens of various sizes and shapes, the short stubby microvilli protruded into the lumen of ducts from the surface of each cells and the ducts were densely surrounded by the fibrous connective tissue.
Development of organelles in the cytoplasm which had many secretory vesicles was observed by transmission electron microscopy.
From the morphological point of view, the cells of pleomorphic adenoma developing in the human palate region should be considered to be of epithelial origin.
Now it is doing well and it has no tendency to recur or change for the worse.
