Abstract
Precancerous melanosis, that Hutchinson first described as senile freckle and later Miescher termed melanotische Präcancerose, is rare in the oral cavity. We have reported precancerous melanosis on the palate. A 68-year-old woman visited our clinic with a main complaint of pigmented spots in the palate. We saw blackbrown spots in the hard palate and soft palate within 19×22mm areas. Their surface was smooth and had no swelling.
Clinical diagnosis was suspected malignant melanoma. We excised the mucosa of the palate far over 2cm areas from the border of the spots. Histological findings showed melanocytes had proliferated in the basal cell layers and the deformation of some nucleus of these cells was seen. Pathological diagnosis was pracancerous melanosis. We dose with anticancer agent and immune therapy agent during seven and a half months after operation. Two years and three months have passed and the prognosis is favorable with no reccurrence.
