Hemangiopericytoma is a rare vascular tumor which is characterized by the proliferation of pricytes around the capillaries.
A case of malignant hemangiopericytoma of the parotid gland is presented.A 24-year-old female noticed a painless mass on the left parotid region five months prior to admission. During surgery a yellowish, multi-nodular and thinly encapsulated mass was found beneath the parotid gland and the mandibular ramus was resorbed.
Histopathological examination revealed the proliferation of the tumor cells outside the basement membrane of the vessels. The tumor cells surrounded by reticulin fiber showed slight atypia and infiltration of the parotid gland. The tumor was histopathologically diagnosed as malignant hemangiopericytoma.
Postoperative radiation therapy (50 grays) and chemotherapy (aclacinomycin A 280mg) were instituted. Also, adjuvant chemotherapy (carmofur 600mg/day) and immunotherapy (OK 432 2.0KE/week) was continued for two years. The patient has been feeling well three years after treatment
