Abstract
The analysis is based on data obtained from 248 cases of oral and maxillofacial injuries treated at our hospital during the past 13 years from June 1975 to December 1988.
1. Investigation of frequencies according to age, revealed that the two most common age groups by far were teens and twenties, accounting for 29.4% and 27.4% respectively.
2. The ratio of male to female was 3.1 to 1.
3. Cause of fractures was traffic accidents in most cases, accounting for 31.5%.
4. 89.9%of patients came to hospital within 14 days after injuries.
5. The common site of the fractures was the lower jaw in 85.2%, and combination fractures weer quite often observed on the maxilla and malar bone.
6. Condylar fracture of the mandible accounted for 24.2%.
7. Open reduction was applied to 60% of the cases.
8. The period of fixation was 29-42 days in most cases.
