Abstract
We report a case of glucose intolerance and coagulopathy caused by a single dose of L-Asparaginase (8, 000 ku) in an 11-year-old girl with acute lymphoblastic leukemia. Her glucose intolerance subsided with a week of continuous intravenous low-dose insulin (0.05 u/kg/h) infusion. Glucose intolerance and coagulopathy caused by a single dose of L-asparaginase has not been reported in the literature. Since mechanisms and full spectrum of the side effects by L-asparaginase are not fully understood, physicians using this drug should be aware of possible side effects including glucose intolerance and coagulopathy, as in our case, for prompt treatment.
