Abstract
The reason why the treatment of psychosomatic disease is difficult may lie with the law of causality. In individual hospital departments that deal with somatic aspects of diseases, the mind-body correlation is useful in understanding the mechanism of psychosomatic disease. However, resistance to this approach occurs in patients under treatment. A solution-focused approach focuses its attention on the factors that have not been recognized thus far in the field of medical treatment such as goal-setting by patients and self efficacy to solve problems. This method has been solving problems by crafting solutions more efficiently than a cause-removal method. An approach based on the concept of calling upon patient's resources and abilities seems useful for patients who believe the cause of psychosomatic disease is the "body" and who seek treatment for the body only. The concept of calling upon the resources of the patient by physical examinations, operations, and medicines may be a necessity in the future.
