Abstract

Risk perception biases on the food hazards are often generated by consumers even when food safety experts evaluate them as safe. It is also possible that it makes other major risk to the society. In this session, we aimed to verify the effect of risk communication technique on four typical types of “No Need to Worry” risks in foods: (1) the Sound-Bite Communication for radioactive tritium water disposed from the 1st Fukushima Nuclear Power Plant, (2) the psychological model to risk communication on Genome-Editing foods, (3) the Smart Risk Communication (SRC) concerning residual pesticides, and (4) the practical implementation in society for the SRC on food additives. The way of risk communication against the risk perception biases on typical tolerable risks in foods was discussed.
