A Study on Aphasia after Stroke in Right Hemispheric Lesions

The Difference between Right-handed and Non-right-handed Patients

Abstract

Twenty-five cases of aphasia caused by strokes with right hemispheric lesion were reported, and the relationship among the types of aphasia, prognosis, lesion site and handedness were analized.
The non-right-handed cases with familial non-right-handedness showed various symptoms and severity which we hardly imagined from site of lesion.
The other cases; cases with right-handedness and non-right-handedness with familial right-handedness, showed same variations in symptoms and severity, as those shown in right-handed cases with left hemispheric lesion.
These results showed aphasia caused by right hemispheric lesion had more variety in symptoms and its recovery courses. Also non-right-handed patients could have different cerebral dominance of language.
